Navigating an Old Place in a New Way
For the first time in my life, I live in a place by choice -- not because my family lives here or because I go to school here. Since getting married and graduating from Baylor for the second time, I have found myself in Waco a little longer than expected. And because I adore spending time outdoors and dream of photographing outdoor brands and adventurous people, I was a little disheartened at first (Waco not being particularly known for its mountain scenery or whitewater.) I desire, however, to be content as Paul learned to be in every season God places me, so I began to reinvent Waco as I knew her.
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Evenings at Lake Waco
Researching where I could experience the natural world of Central Texas, my husband and I started going to the lake in the evenings. There is something about these evenings—the soft glow of the earth, the warmth of the sand beneath our feet, the gentle waves left behind by passing boats, and the sound of families enjoying the shoreline—that slows everything down. It captures the very essence of the life outside I've been craving. In these moments, it's clear to me that God isn't waiting for me somewhere else; He is meeting me exactly where I already am.
The Lord has no doubt made me to admire His creation, but as I wait for the fullness of His glory to be revealed, sometimes an evening by the water, a blanket in the sand, or the person I love beside me is all it takes to remind me that beauty can be found in simplicity — and it's that same beauty I'm always hoping to capture through my photographs.
